Mullaperiyar situation critical : PJ Joseph

Mullaperiyar Thiruvananthapuram: Water resources minister PJ Joseph said that the Mullaperiyar dam is in a highly serious stage  and the water level must be reduced. Mr PJ Joseph spoke to media after the high level meeting that was convened to discuss the Mullaperiyar issue.

After July 26 there has been around 20 minor earthquakes in the region. The state government has been warned of an upcoming major quake that could be detrimental to the dam. More than 30 lakh people would lose their lives the dam breaks down. Mr PJ Joseph said that it is highly essential that an immediate action be taken.

After the dam gives away no disaster management activity would be of any use. He said Kerala is ready to give water to Tamil Nadu and the government is also ready to enter into an agreement with TN.
