Mullaperiyar water level to be increase to 140ft: TN

jayalalithaNew Delhi: The Tamil Nadu government has made it clear that they shall not give up their rights on the dam and shall insist on increasing the water holding capacity of the dam to 142 feet.Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had called a special session of the assembly on Thursday to pass a resolution that the state will not give up its rights over the 116-year old dam.

The special session had been convened to express the solidarity of the people of Tamil Nadu and all the political parties, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said. Tamil Nadu has maintained that the dam is “as good as new” and accused its neighbouring state of whipping up a “fear psychosis” over the issue. Jayalalithaa charged Kerala government with carrying out a “mischievous propaganda” on the safety of the Mullaperiyar Dam only to create panic and whip up emotions of its people to draw political mileage.
