Mullaperiyar:Sate submits new petition before SC

supreme-court-of-indiaNew Delhi: Kerala Government submitted a new petition in Supreme Court seeking permission to reduce the water level of the Mullaperiyar dam immediately.  The state has asked permission to reduce the water level to 120 feet. In its petition submitted before the Supreme court, the state has said that  incase the Tamil Nadu government expresses discontent, the apex court should give the Mullaperiyar dam safety authority the permission to reduce the water level of the dam.

It has also stated that the recent earthquakes near Mullaperiyar has caused significant damage to the dam and caution must be employed. In the petition the state has given a list of the number of attacks, the intensity of seismic waves, and the kind of damage it caused to the dam.
