MV Jayarajan appeals before SC

MV Jayarajan Kochi: CPIM state committee member MV Jayarajan today filed an appeal in Supreme Court challenging the High Court verdict that sentencing him to six months imprisonment in the contempt of Court case. The appeal is of two Volumes and 400 pages.  Jayarajan was sentenced to six months of imprisonment for calling the judges ‘Shumbhan’ (stupid). The appeal contains nothing more than the explanation he gave in the High Court earlier.

” I am a politician and public spirited person.  When the High Court gave a verdict against public justice I criticized it. In a democratic nation cant a citizen express his view? When I tried to defend my self  they said I was arrogant.”, Jayarajan said. “This is not befitting a democratic nation”, he added.

“As a public spirited person I gave the speech which the court misinterpreted. The judgement is prejudice. This is evident from the statements made by the judge while declaring the verdict.  My speech was of 45 mins. The media highlighted only one side of the speech. The High Court appreciated the effort of the media,” he said.
