National schools athletic meet: Kerala emerges champions

school festivalLudhiana: Kerala clinched the overall championship for the 15th time in a row at the 57th National schools athletic meet held at the Guru Nanak stadium in Ludhiana today. Kerala secured 266 points and a total of 69 medals including 29 gold medals, 25 silver medals and 15 bronze medals. Kerala won gold medals in five of the six final’s that was held today.

The Kerala team athletes had to face the extreme cold weather at Ludhiana during the games. M D Thara clinched her third old medal today in the cross country event.  Sinju Prakash bagged gold and set a new national record in senior girl’s pole vault event. In the same event Melbi P Manuel secured the silver medal. While Kerala’s 4*400 metre boys, girls relay team also won gold.
