NDA also responsible for not passing Bill: Sushma

sushma-swarajNew Delhi: Leader of  Opposition and BJP MP, Sushma Swaraj said it is high time for a strong Lokpal during the debate on the Lokpal bill at the Lok Sabha this afternoon. She held not only the UPA but also the NDA responsible for the delay in passing the bill.

“The bill that was presented by the Government on August 4 is not the first. This is the ninth Bill that was presented. First one was presented in 1968, then in 1971, 1977, 1985, 1989, 1997, 1998, 2001 and now in 2011. Even during the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) regime we could not pass the Bill. The UPA (United Progressive Alliance) brought the bill for the first time in its seventh year of being in power. I also hold NDA regime responsible for not being able to pass the Bill,” she said.

Sushma Swaraj said that her party supported all the three points of the Jan Lokpal Bill, but added that some changes need to be made to implement them.”I suggest we should consider Article 252. By this we can make Lokpal and lokayuktas simultaneously. Two BJP-ruled states and two NDA ally-ruled state has implemented Grievance Redressal Mechanism. I think Anna team’s proposal on citizen charter is a very good suggestion,” she said.

“Mechanisms can be made, appellate authorities can be made. If we are not able to keep lower bureaucracy under check then common man will feel angry. The BJP supports bringing in lower bureaucracy to be brought under Lokpal,” she added.

Sushma Swaraj blaming the Government for introducing a toothless and ineffective Lokpal Bill on August 4 and demanded a strong anti- corruption bill if the Government is committed to the cause of eradicating corruption.
