NHRC orders immediate relief for endosulfan victims

New Delhi: The National Human rights commission (NHRC) asked the Kerala government to pay monetary relief  to the endosulfan victims without any further delay. The commission has asked the Kerala state government to comply with their recommendations within four weeks.

A representative of the state government  attended a review meeting on August 26 convened by the Commission on the status of implementation of its recommendations.

The Commission had on December 31 last year through a detailed order recommended that the State should pay at least Rs five lakh to the next of kin of those who died and to those who were fully bed ridden or unable to move without help or mentally retarded and Rs three lakh to those who have got other disability due to exposure to endosulfan.

A representative of the state government  attended a review meeting on August 26 called by the Commission on the status of implementation of its recommendations. A panel of doctors may assess the extent of physical disability caused by the insecticide to classify the categories of victims.
