Padmanabhaswamy temple: MV Nair appointed as new coordinator

pathmanabhaswamyThiruvananthapuram: Conservationist M V Nair has been designated as the new coordinator of the five member Supreme Court committee on the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple. Mr Nair would replace the former – Director General of the National Museum C V Ananda Bose. Mr Nair is a member of the committee set up by the Supreme Court for inventorying the temple treasures. Mr Nair was appointed by the Government of Kerala. The State has issued a GO in this regard.

Additional Chief Secretary, Mr K Jayakumar would be the nodal officer who would liasise between the committee and the Government. The committee is to meet shortly to discuss various methods that could be employed to reduce the cost of inventorying the vaults at Padmanabhaswamy Temple. Though the Ananda Bose committee had asked for Rs 2.98 crore, the latest offer from Keltron stands at Rs 2.5 crore.

“We are committed to the methodology for the inventorying as outlined in the interim report given by the committee to the Supreme Court. What we would do is to try and economize, without in anyway compromising the quality of the process there would be no delay on the part of the State in providing the necessary funds for the inventorying of the vaults,” he said.
