Palmolein case: SC to consider Kannanthanam’s petition

alphons-kannanthanamNew Delhi: The petition submitted by Alphons Kannanthanam requesting an inquiry into the Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s involvement in the palmolein graft case shall be considered by the Supreme Court today. The bench comprises of Aftar Alam and Ranjana Desai. Alphons Kannanthanam shall appear in court and present his case.

In his petition he has demanded a CBI inquiry into the case that shall be under the supervision of the apex court. He has asked the court to handle the case in the similar manner in which the 2 G spectrum case has been handled. Mr Kannanthanam was the Civil Cooperation Director while the Pamolein deal was underway. ” It would not make sense if the case is inquired by the Vigilance Commission especially when Mr Oommen Chandy himself is the Chief Minister,” he said. He has asked the court to establish a special investigation team under the leadership of a retired IPS officer.

Mr Kannanthanam had earlier approached the High Court with these requests but his petition was rejected by the High Court.
