Pannian Raveendran elected as CPI secretary

paniyan ravindran Thiruvananthapuram: Senior CPI leader and former MP Pannian Raveendran was elected as Kerala secretary of the party yesterday night. Mr Pannian Raveendran is to succeed C K Chandrappann who died last month. The sate council elected him to the post after a meeting that was convened yesterday. The council was attended by national General Secretary Sudhakar Reddy and other senior leaders.

AITUC leader Kanam Rajendran and former minister and legislative wing leader C Divakaran were widely projected as front runner to the post. Pannian Raveendran (born 22 December 1945) was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. He represented the Trivandrum constituency of Kerala and is a member of the CPI political party. As of May 2011, he represents the Paravoor assembly seat for CPI.
