PC George must appear before court in person

P C GeorgeThiruvananthapuram: Government Chief Whip, PC George, charged with contempt of court, has been asked to appear before the Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance Court in person,on October 18, 2011. A contempt of Court petition was filed on September 15 against PC George for criticizing the Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance Court order which directed a probe into the alleged involvement of Chief minister Oommen Chandy in the Pamolien Case. He is said to have defamed the judiciary through his remarks.

The petition was filed by advocate Balachandran, a resident of Kowdiar. The petition points out that PC George had criticized judges through his statements made at press conferences and TV shows. Recently, in a letter send to President Pratibha Patel, Governor and Supreme Court Chief Justice, George alleged that the Vigilance judge P K Haneefa had ordered a probe into the case my using his powers beyond his official capacity

The judge was deliberately trying to make Chief Minister Oommen Chandy an accused in the case, the letter alleged. George’s action has apparently embarrassed the Congress leadership.
