Pinarayi blames state government for negligence

pinarayi vijayanThiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan blamed the state government in connection with the recent outbreak of contagious diseases in the State. While interacting with the reporters he said that the government had not taken any preventive measures to curb the fever outbreak. The number of deaths due to fever is increasing, he added.

According to the recent reports, the number of patients being hospitalized with dengue, yellow fever, cholera and rat fever in the state is on the rise. Until now 36 persons have died of rat fever in Kerala. In Kottayam around 100 persons have been admitted to several hospitals with yellow fever.

Seven people who were detected with Rat bite fever succumbed to death at the Calicut Medical College, in one week. Of the six who died three were from Kozhikode, two from Malappuram and one from Kannur. The death toll thus rose to 13. A total of 489 confirmed cases of leptospirosis and 45 deaths have been reported in the State this year so far. Last year, 850 cases of leptospirosis and 85 deaths had been reported across the State.

Leptospiriosis has accounted for atleast 100 deaths every year in the state. Early diagnosis is essential. More dialysis facilities have been arranged in the Kozhikode and Pariyaram Medical Colleges.
