Piracy: We will not accept Italy’s arguments

Oommen ChandyThiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said he would not accept the Italian Marines arguments regarding the shooting of Indian fishermen off the Kerala coast. He also stated that he was satisfied with the actions taken by the government. In the name of diplomatic ties no one would be allowed to escape, he added. Mr Chandy made it clear that the government would take strong action against the Italian marines who have been alleged to have shot down the Indian fishermen.

The Chief Minister further added that 10 more police stations would be built to ensure security of fishermen along its coastal belt in the wake of the recent killing of two Indian fishermen off the Kollam coast. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was responding to the adjournment motion moved by Opposition MLA PK Gurudasan. After the Chief Ministers response, the Speaker G Karthikeyan refused to entertain an adjournment motion in connection Italian ship firing case on February 15. Following which the  CPM led LDF opposition staged a walkout in the Assembly.
