Planning Commission approves Kochi metro rail project

kochi metro railNew Delhi: Planning Commission approved the Kochi metro rail project giving impetus to the development plans of Kochi. The Planning Commission Vice Chairman, Montek Singh Ahuwalia said that the commission had no objection to the project, adding that the issue of financial liability to be incurred by the project had been sent to the financial study section comprising representatives of various Ministries.

The final decision would be taken after the financial study and after the Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy visits New Delhi next week. The project is expected to reduce the pressure on road traffic, increase mobility and economic viability and be environment friendly. The project is expected to increase the quality of life of the people of the City and boost the economic growth.
