Police beats up tribal women; Opposition stages walk out

Kerala Legislative Assembly Thiruvanathapuram: Opposition party staged a walk out from the assembly when the speaker denied permission for an adjournment motion to discuss the case where in a tribal women was brutally beaten up by the police at the Thrissur Malakkappara police station.

The Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy assured that the ASI shall be suspended and an independent unbiased enquiry shall be held to probe into the matter. The police had arrested Aadivasi Paru to question her regarding a theft that had occurred in that area. At the police station she was brutally beaten following an argument between Satheesh and herself. Paru was tied up and beaten up with a cane.

Paru was later admitted at the Chalakudy hospital. DYSP has recorded her statement. Opposition Deputy Leader Koodiyeri Balakrishnan has demanded for a non  bailable arrest of the accused policeman. He has also asked the government to take up the hospital expenses of the Aadivasi women.
