Press misinterpretted news: Oommen Chandy

Oommen-chandyThiruvananthapuram: The AG issue is a closed chapter said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy during a press conference held today where he was briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting. “The AG has not gone wrong in giving an affidavit in the High Court. He has only stated that there is no connection between the water level rise and the safety of the dam, he said justifying the AG’s statements. He also stated that the government was happy with the clarifications made by the AG. The government would submit another detailed affidavit before the High Court. According to the CM the statements made by the AG was misinterpreted by the media.

A four member sub committee would be appointed for this purpose. Ministers Thiruvanjoor Radhakrishnan, PK Kunhalikutty, Aryadan Muhhamed and PJ Joseph shall be the sub committee members.

He said that the government would request the Supreme Court to grant permission to reduce the water level to 120 feet. An all party group would be sent to Delhi to discuss the issue. He also asked everyone to maintain self restraint. “Any untoward action would trigger anti Kerala sentiments within Tamil Nadu. It is a sensitive issue and it should be handled carefully. We have a motive before us and that is to construct a new dam. We should be focused and not digress from the issue and work towards achieving it,” he added.
