Puthenvelikkara murder case: Accused gets death sentence

jayanandanKochi: Jayanandan, the prime accused in the Devaki murder case has been found guilty and awarded the death sentence. 51 year old Devaki  was murdered at Puthenvelikkara. Eranakulam Additional Sessions Court Judge Jose Thomas declared the verdict. The court stated that the case was one among the rarest of the rarest cases. Jayanandan (39), a native of Mala in Thrissur district, had attacked Devaki, and her husband, Ramakrishnan, at Puthenvelikkara and robbed them of gold ornaments.

On interrogation, he confessed to having committed seven murders and many burglaries, including the double murder at Perinjanam. A special team investigating the Devaki murder case arrested Jayanandan on November 23, 2006. If death sentence was not awarded tohim the citizens would loose faith in the Judicial system, Mr Jose Thomas said. Jayanandan  is an accused in 7 murder cases. In June the convict had attempeted to escape from the Kannur High security cell. Finnaly he was captured from Ooty, Tamil Nadu.
