India’s steel baroness is India’s richest women

Savithri Jindal New Delhi: The steel baroness of India, Savithri Jindal makes every Indian woman proud by soaring to the top list of Forbes list of India’s richest. Savitri Jindal is ranked No.5 in the list of India’s most affluent. Mukesh Ambani is still the richest Indian for the fourth consecutive year with a net worth of $22.6 billion, despite losing $4.4 billion.

The Forbes list of the world’s richest people shows that India’s economic cream has not been immune to global recession trends. The collectively worth of the 100 richest Indians have come down to $241 billion, from $300 billion a year ago. At number two is steel magnate Laxmi Mittal, even after his net worth has dipped by $6.9 billion, he is still worth $19.2 billion.

Wipro Tech wizard Azim Premji, one of Asia’s top philanthropers, is slotted at No. 3, and bridging the gender gap is Savitri Jindal at number 5. Worth $9.5 billion, Savitri is also the richest Indian woman today.

There are 14 new faces on the list – at no 51 is Rahul Bhatia of low-cost carrier Indigo and Anand Mahindra made it to the list for the first time. Notable exits from the list include Vinod Goenka and Shahid Balwa, former billionaires who are now cooling their heels in jail in the 2G scam.
