SC to consider VS plea against Pillai

Supreme Court New Delhi: The Supreme Court will consider the petition filed by Kerala Opposition leader, V S Achuthananthan that is against the release of Kerala Congress (B) leader R Balakrishnan Pillai who was released by the state government under the cover of granting remission for convicts on the State Formation (Kerala Piravi) Day. Justice P Sadashivam, B S Chauhan who convicted Balakrishnan Pillai in the Edamlayar graft case shall are among others in the bench that will consider the petition.

VS argues that the release of Balakrishnan Pillai is unconstitutional. He states that prisoners who exhibit good behaviour are only permitted to be released on compassionate grounds. However, Balakrishnana pIllai has broken jail rules and was punished for the same.

Though prisoners are not permitted to use a personal phone Balakrishnan Pillai spoke to a media person that was broadcast over his personal mobile.
