SC verdict not a set back for Kerala:Oommen Chandy

oommen-chandy-Thiruvananthapuram: The Supreme Court verdict regarding the Mullaperiyar dam is not a set back for the Kerala government said, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Yesterday the apex court decided that the dam’s water level should be maintained at 136 feet. Kerala Government had submitted a petition before the court seeking immediate reduction of water level to 120 feet. The CM was responding to this verdict of the Supremem Court. The Supreme Court has considered most of the demands of the Kerala state, he added.

Minister PJ Joseph stated that a special committee would request the reduction of the water level. The apex court had asked Kerala to express its demands before the high powered committee. In his petition he has expressed the apprehensions of the people of Kerala and would demand immediate action be taken to resolve the issue.

In various parts of Tamil Nadu people celebrated the Supreme Court verdict. In Gudalur, Kambam, Theni the localities were seen bursting crackers and distributing sweets.
