Shabrimala’s ‘zero waste’ project

shabarimalaPathanamthitta: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has officially launched the ‘zero waste’ project at Pampa today which is a massive cleaning drive with the participation of people and various organizations, undertaken prior to the Mandalam-Makaravilakku season.

It is for the first time that such a massive project is being implemented at Sabarimala for cleaning the area. As many as 4,000 volunteers of various religious and non- governmental organisations will take part in the cleaning drive. Sabarimala and Pampa would be divided into 26 segments to facilitate a smooth and systematic conduct of the cleaning programme.

Over 3000 big and small voluntary service organisations, including Amritanandamayi Math, Sathyasai Seva Samithi, National Service Scheme, Brahmakumaris and Ayyappa Seva Sangham will participate in the drive. The expenditure of the programme is estimated at  Rs 5 crore.
