Soumya case: Dr Unmesh under suspension

Dr Unmesh Thrissur: In relation to the Soumya murder case, Dr Unmesh associate professor of Thrissur Medical College who had given a statement against the prosecution has been suspended. A departmental inquiry has been initiated against him in the wake of the controversy over autopsy report of Soumya. The Health department suspended him based on court instructions.

The Thrissur fast track Court had earlier directed the police to register a case against Dr Unmesh who made statements in favour of the defence in the murder case. The Court informed that the doctor had committed a dereliction of duty.Unmesh had stated in the Court, where the trial of the case is taking place, on October 10 that he had performed the postmortem examination of the body of Soumya and not the head of the Forensic Department, Sherley Vasu. The Home department has begun a probe against Dr. Unmesh who had reiterated his statement that it was he who conducted the autopsy in favour of the defendant’s side.

On October31, the Court directed to initiate a criminal case against Dr Unmesh. He is found guilty under IPC 193. The Health had stated earlier that they would take action once they got a copy of the verdict.
