Speaker demands inquiry into alleged budget leakage

Thiruvananthapuram: Speaker of Legislative Assembly G Karthikeyan has demanded an inquiry into the alleged leakage in the budget. The speaker has asked the government to  give an explanation regarding the circumstances that led to leakage of the budget. In todays Mangalam newspaper, certain features of the proposed budget was published. This became highly controversial. The opposition leader VS Achuthanandan and  the Deputy opposition leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan met the Speaker to express their apprehensions regarding this matter. The Speaker requested them to permit the budget to be presented and stated that, matters related to the leakage could be dealt with after the presentation of the budget.

The LDF opposition members created an uproar and raised slogans in the Assembly today alleging that the Finance Minister KM Mani had failed to keep his Budget proposals secret. When the minister announced the enhancement in the retirement age to 56, the opposition shouted slogans and staged a sit in protest in the well of the house as the matter had already been published in the Mangalam newspaper.
