Stalin just a party worker

stalinMadurai: Amid speculation about succession battle ahead of the February 3 crucial general council of the DMK, party senior leader and Union Minister M K Alagiri on Monday said his younger sibling M K Stalin was ‘yet another DMK man.’

“I don’t have anything special to say about him, he is like everyone, he is like all members of the DMK,” he said when asked about his message to Stalin on his (Alagiri’s) 61st birthday on Monday.

Alagiri, DMK chief M Karunanidhi’s son, dubbed as media creation reports about Stalin suggesting structural changes in the party, which is struggling to rejuvenate itself after the assembly election setback, made worse by the taint of 2G scam over alleged involvement of some of its leaders.

On his own future, Alagiri, DMK’s Southern Region Organizing Secretary, said people would decide it. “I had done a lot of work for the people,’ he said indicating he had mass support.

Alagiri’s remarks to a TV channel come as a clear signal that the succession battle between him and Stalin was very much alive despite the party going through a bad patch with a number of leaders facing the heat from the Jayalalithaa Government on land grabbing charges.

The General Council, DMK’s top decision making body, will discuss among others, preparations for next Lok Sabha polls and organisational changes amidst speculations that Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi, out on bail in the 2G case, could be given a bigger role in the party.
