Times Now channel pays 100 crore fine

times now New Delhi: The Bombay High Court slapped a hefty fine on Times Global Broadcasting Co for defamation.  A defamation suit was filed by a retired apex court judge.The court had asked Times to deposit Rs.20 crore with high court registrar along with a Rs.80 crore bank guarantee in a Rs.100 crore defamation suit filed by a retired apex court judge.

Though Times group approached The Supreme Court, it has refused to interfere with the Bombay High Court order. An apex court bench headed by Justice GS Singhvi said “we are not inclined to stay the high court order”. Times Global Broadcasting was asked to pay damages to Justice PB Sawant for wrongly carrying his image on the Times Now news channel while telecasting a story on the Ghaziabad district court provident fund scam.
