TN on high alert

Chennai: Security has been tightened across Tamilnadu following the high intensify suitcase bomb blast near the New Delhi High Court complex. Police sources said that though a formal alert was yet to be received from the Central government, security has been tightened in various parts of the State.

As the news of the bomb blast in Delhi came, heightened security arrangements were put in place in the Madras High Court Complex, airports, Railway stations, temples, places of worship, and in places were public congregate in large numbers. Security has also been enhanced at the airport following the blast in Delhi. A four-tier security arrangements has been put in place.

Airport sources said ”a two-tier security was earlier put in place. It has now been enhanced to four-tier secrity with the deployment of additional CISF personnel and those belonging to the State police’. Intensive vehicle checks were being carried out in the parking lots at the airport and passengers were allowed entry after thorough frisking.

All the baggages, including the hand baggages were thoroughly screened. As part of tight security arrangements, all the passengers were also screened at the boarding point before entering the aircraft. All the CISF personnel who had gone on leave were asked to join duty immediately to further enhance the security level at the domestic and international airports.

Government Railway Police sources said that security has also been stepped up in all railway stations in the State. Passengers were allowed to pass through metal detectors installed in all the stations and the baggages were being thoroughly checked before they were allowed to board the trains.

Railway Protection Force personnel were also conducting checks at the railway stations and in trains. Police have also stepped up vigil in all vital installations in the city and patrolling has also been intensified.
