Typhoon Talas torments Shikoku island: Japan

typhoonShikoku: Typhoon Talas cut across western Japan, leaving at least two people dead and five missing it has also created landfall in southern Japan officials and press reports said. “The typhoon, packing gusts of up to 108 kilometres per hour, made landfall on the Pacific coast of Shikoku island about 10am,on Saturday”, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said was moving north at less than 10 km per hour. Because of the storm’s slow speed, the agency warned of heavy rain and strong winds centered in south-central Japan that could lead to flooding and landslides.

The public broadcaster NHK said a woman drowned in Matsuyama, a major city on Shikoku, and a 73-year-old man was crushed by a landslide that hit his house in the mountains of Nara prefecture. Strong winds also forced the cancellations of 420 flights in western Japan regions.
