UP cabinet passes proposal for division of state

UP being split Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh state cabinet has passed the proposal to split the state into four regions. This strategic move comes when the state is preparing for elections. According to her the state will be split into 4 regions for better administration. The Chief Minister Mayawati has sent the proposal to the Central government for approval.

The BSP chief said that her government had decided to make a proposal of reorganising Uttar Pradesh into four new states as they have come to the conclusion that such a division will help in better development of the state. Mayawati pointed that formation of smaller state was the jurisdiction of the Central government, but both BJP and the Congress never took concrete initiative on the issue.

She accused the centre for being indifferent to the states needs. “UP has not been able to develop because of the indifferent attitude of the Central government. It has always been neglected,” said Mayawati. Taking on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the chief minister said, “I had requested for a financial assistance package for UP, but the PM has not responded.”
