Vaiko in the fray

vaikoChennai: After boycotting Assembly elections following failure of seat-sharing talks with AIADMK, the MDMK is all set to contest the upcoming local body polls with party chief Vaiko inviting applications from ticket aspirants.

Filled-in forms from party workers seeking tickets for various posts including Mayors should be submitted between September 10-18 along with the stipulated fees, Vaiko said in a release in Chennai. A long-time ally of AIADMK, the MDMK parted ways with the ruling party after the two failed to arrive at a seat-sharing agreement for the assembly elections which the AIADMK-led alliance won by a massive margin.

The party had blamed its senior partner’s ‘consistent ill-treatment and arrogant attitude,’ for pulling out of the alliance. AIADMK government had announced holding local body polls in October when the term of the present civic bodies ends.
