Vilappilsala waste treatment plant to be reopned: SC

vilappilshalaNew Delhi:The Supreme Court rejected a special petition filed by the Vilappilsala panchayat challenging the Kerala High Court order directing police protection for resuming garbage movement to Vilappilsala waste treatment plant. The Supreme Court has declared that the Vilappilsala treatment plant should be opened and garbage disposal should be resumed. Waste disposal shall be resumed with certain restrictions and control.

Garbage disposal is a a major problem faced in Kerala. The state lacks efficient waste disposal system. The Supreme Court bench compromising of K S Radhakrishnan and Deepak Verma observed that a long term solution is required in the matter. In the petition, the panchayat had described how the functioning of garbage plant has adversely affected the lives of the villagers for the last 10 years.The plea pointed out that around 50,000 people in the area are suffering from the garbage issue.
