VS demands removal of Vigilance Director

AchuthanandanThiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader, VS Achuthanandan has demanded the removal of  Desmond Netto from the post of  Vigilance Director. The CPM veteran alleged that, Netto is corrupt and had tried to save Chief Minister Oommen Chandy from the Palmolein import scam in 1992 and had tried to sabotage further probe into the palmolein case.

VS promised the media more facts and proof related to Mr Netto’s attempt in trying to sabotage the Titanium case in the near future. False documents were produced by Netto to rescue Oomen Chandy from the Pamolien case. It is on this basic that VS Achuthanandan has demanded the removal of the vigilance director.

Oomen Chandy was the Finance Minister during the period when Palmolein, an edible oil, was imported from Malaysia. A report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) found that the deal caused a loss of Rs. 2.32 crore to the exchequer. The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau filed the chargesheet in the case in 2003 in which the then Chief Minister, the late K Karunakaran, was the prime accused.
