WB loan for Jalanidhi project second stage

jalanidhiThiruvananthapuram: The World Bank has sanctioned Rs 825 crore for the second stage of the Jalanidhi project. The loan would be used for rural water supply and sanitation services. The loan is to benefit 18.4 lakh people. The Jalanidhi project which is officially called the Kerala Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project will be implemented in 200 grama panchayats in Kasargod, Kannur, Malapuram, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Idukki and Kottayam districts.

290,000 households would be benefited from water supply investments and 690,000 households would be benefited from the sanitation interventions under the project. This project is a boon to women who would be the major beneficieries and would have a strong voice in the Beneficiary Committees (BCs). The BC’s would be responsible for the sub project implementation.

The project would benefit to about 65,000 beneficiaries to tribal population in 22 grama panchayats. The credit from the International Development Association (IDA) the world Bank’s concessionary lending arm, has final maturity of 25 years, including a five year grace period.
