We have shown no disrespect: Oommen Chandy

Oommen ChandyThrissur: The opposition leaders have shown disrespect towards the the former Kerala Governor Late MOH Farook, said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. He was reacting to the Opposition leader VS Achuthanathan’s statement wherein he opined that the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and his cabinet Ministers must tender an apology for the alleged disrespect shown towards late Kerala Governor MOH Farook.

No one among the opposition leaders participated in the funeral ceremony of the deceased governor. The opposition has raised such allegations against the government to cover up this embarrassment, the CM added. Mr Oommen Chandy clarified that the government had not shown any disrespect to the Late governor. The mourning ended on February 1, 2012 he added. Thus the celebrations as a part of the official programme at Nishagandhi Auditorium was not disrespectful to the governor, he added.

Even though the state government had declared seven day mourning in the state as a respect towards late Governor, CM and Ministers had organized an official programme at Nishagandhi Auditorium.The government had announced a seven-day mourning from January 27th to February 2 in the state as a mark of respect to Governor Farook who had passed away on January 26th. The state governments decision to organize an official programme is highly unconstitutional and abominable , VS Achuthananthan had accused. He had asked the Chief Minister to clarify his stand. According to him the Chief Minister breached his own statement.
