Yeddyurappa arrested, bail plea rejected

yedyurappaBangalore: A special Lokayukta court issued an arrest warrant against former Karnataka Chief Minister Yeddyurappa. A special court hearing land scam cases, filed by the Lokayukta police against Mr Yeddyurappa, rejected his anticipatory bail plea in the land denotification case. The arrest will be executed by the Lokayukta Deputy SP.

Though bail was rejected to the former CM his son and son-in-laws were granted bail in the case. “This is an eye-opener for all Chief Ministers, politicians who violate law,” said JD(S) leader MC Nanaiah. According to Congress Spokesperson Renuka Chaudhry, “Yeddyurappa has to face the consequences; it’s ironic that the order has come when Advani is on his anti-corruption yatra.”

JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy had exposed the scam and advocate Sirajin Basha is the main complainant. Yeddyurappa’s sons and son-in-law have also been asked to submit audit details of their firms. In the complaint filed by city-based advocate Sirajin Basha, Yeddyurappa and five others including his sons and son-in-law were accused of irregularities in denotifying government land in Rachenahalli in Bangalore South taluk which caused an estimated loss of about Rs 40 crore to the state exchequer.

Mr Yeddyurappa was forced to resign as Chief Minister of Karnataka on July 31 after a report on illegal mining declared him guilty of accepting kickbacks from companies who were given mining licences.
